Stepping Outside My Comfort Zone: A Vintage, Natural Light Session
One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is getting to stretch creatively… and this session did exactly that.
This client came to me with a very clear vision: a soft, vintage, natural-light look inspired by a set of reference photos they absolutely loved. She wanted flowy grass, sunbursts, and most importantly, flowers in her boots! Now, if you know my work, you know I’m typically a flash photographer. I love shaping light, creating drama, and building intentional setups. So this request was a fun twist and a brand-new creative challenge for me.
Instead of controlling every beam of light, I leaned into what the space naturally gave us. We chased soft light, paid close attention to shadows, and focused on gentle movement and emotion. The goal was to capture something that felt organic, timeless, and effortless while still staying true to my storytelling style.
The result? Magic.
This session reminded me how powerful it can be to step outside of your comfort zone. Trying new approaches keeps creativity alive, sharpens your skills, and opens the door to entirely new artistic directions. I absolutely loved collaborating with this senior who trusted me with her vision and allowed me to interpret it through my lens.
If you have a unique idea, a mood board, or a style you’re drawn to… let’s talk. Some of the most beautiful images are born when we combine inspiration, trust, and a little creative bravery.
