Rasor Rants | Branding for a Modern Business Woman

A Branding Session for the Modern Powerhouse: Professional Headshots Without the Stuffy Vibes

When this client reached out about branding photos for her new advising and loan consulting business, she had one clear request: professional, but not corporate.

She didn’t want stiff poses, fake smiles, or the traditional “stuffy banker headshot” look. She wanted something natural, confident, approachable — and powerful. Something that looked like her.

And honestly? I loved the challenge.

Professional Doesn’t Have to Mean Boring!

So many professional headshots feel cookie-cutter. Same background. Same pose. Same forced smile. But when you’re building a business (especially one rooted in trust, strategy, and personal relationships) your images should reflect your personality and energy.

For this session, our goal was to create images that felt:

  • Polished but relaxed

  • Confident without feeling intimidating

  • Approachable yet authoritative

  • Strong, modern, and authentic

Basically: badass, but still professional.

Designing a Session That Felt Like Her

After a quick hair and make-up sesh with my girl, Josey, we did a few shots in the studio, then headed to the Armstrong Hotel in Old Town Fort Collins. I had spotted this location earlier in the week while searching for the perfect coffee shop for these images. Their lobby was gorgeous and had the perfect setup, with large windows and tons of beautiful bookcases!

(Pro tip: Always talk to the shop owner before taking a client to a location. Make sure they approve and are expecting you!)

Celebrating Women Who Build Boldly

There is something incredibly inspiring about photographing women who are stepping into entrepreneurship …especially in industries that have traditionally been male-dominated. Watching her confidence grow throughout the session, seeing her relax into her power, and capturing that transformation on camera is why I love branding photography so much. Supporting a fellow woman-owned business always makes my heart feel full!

These sessions aren’t just about photos. They’re about confidence, visibility, and owning your voice.
