90s Witch Vibes at the Avery House … A Senior Session Full of Mood & Magic

Some seniors want golden fields and bright smiles.
Some want mountains and sunsets.

And then… There are the seniors who say, “I want 90s witch vibes.”

This session at the historical Avery House in Fort Collins,CO was the perfect setting for a senior who wanted photos that felt mysterious, nostalgic, and beautifully unconventional. As an elder emo, I adore all things alternative, spooky, and moody. (Spooky is a lifestyle, not a season.)

The Avery House felt like a spooky girl’s dream come true. It was already decorated for Halloween tours, which aligned perfectly with our vision and saved us from having to manufacture any mood … it was simply there. It had a beautiful staircase, a gorgeous vintage piano, and an entire antique bedroom upstairs. The staff was wonderful in ensuring we didn’t touch anything or mess with the integrity of this historical home as we explored and used its gorgeous features for some dramatic and artistic shots.

There’s something incredibly powerful about seniors who don’t want trendy.

Who doesn’t want what everyone else is doing.

Who wants photos that feel like them … even if that means channeling a little 90s magic, mystery, and rebellion.

I’m always hoping to connect with more alternative seniors who bring bold, out-of-the-box ideas to their shoots. Even years later, this session still stands out as one of my all-time favorites.
